The Alchemy of Concrete
a walking tour of the Mancunian Way on Thursday 27 August at 3pm, The walking tour offers an unconventional perspective on the geographical and cultural impact of the Mancunian Way on the city and its people. The tour starts with a short introductory presentation at Manchester Metropolitan University at 3pm, followed by the tour itself which lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours.
At 6pm, as part of the URBIS Urban Research Forum, there will a public debate about the Mancunian Way and the impact of postwar Modernist planning and architecture in Manchester. Participants on the tour, as well members of the general public are invited to attend.
The tour will appeal particularly to people new to Manchester, plus anyone with an interest in cities, local history, planning and architecture.
The event is design to coincide with the annual Royal Geographical Society Conference which is taking place in the last week of August.
